When you're ready to choose your cosmetic packaging, you usually prioritize the appearance of the packaging. Gorgeous cosmetic packaging can always attract the attention of customers for first time. But you have carefully considered which packaging material is suitable for your product. This short guide can help you navigate your cosmetic packaging.

Glass

Glass is a cosmetic packaging material with obvious advantages and disadvantages. Due to its chemical neutrality, glass is widely used in perfume and beverage bottles. In addition, the transparent glass packaging is also very elegant and atmospheric, and it is convenient for customers to observe the cosmetic in the bottle.

Disadvantages of glass include its brittleness. It is a tough material but is susceptible to mechanical damage. This means that additional protection against breakage must be provided to the glass packaging. Cardboard packaging or other protective measures are especially required during transport. This means more shipping costs and packaging costs.

ABS

ABS- Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene Plastic- Deriving from petroleum and natural gas, ABS is composed of organic compounds like styrene, acrylonitrile, and butadiene. ABS as a cosmetic material has three significant advantages. First, ABS has a low melting point and is easy to shape. Secondly, ABS can withstand multiple heating and cooling, making it ideal for recycling, which protects the environment while reducing costs. Third and most importantly, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recognized ABS plastic as safe for food packaging and medical implants, so if you are concerned about the safety of packaging, ABS is your best choice select.

Acrylic

Acrylic - Acrylate polymers - Also known as polyacrylates, these plastics are known for their elasticity and impact resistance. Most acrylic falls into the PMMA category and is used as a cheaper alternative to glass. Due to its lightweight, acrylic is ideal for applications where weight savings are critical. You can choose acrylic packaging in a variety of colors, but they sometimes fade when exposed to bright, prolonged sunlight.Aluminum

The main advantage of aluminum packaging is its mechanical durability. Also, aluminum allows for a more modern design than plastic. Packaging can be highly customized. Unfortunately, a considerable disadvantage of aluminum is its high thermal conductivity. Rapid heating or cooling may mean that the product contained in it may lose its characteristics very quickly.

AS

AS - Acrylonitrile Styrene material is similar to ABS material. Compared with ABS, there is one less butadiene segment (rubber segment) in the molecular segment of AS. AS has good transparency and poor toughness, while ABS has good strength, good toughness, and poor transparency.

HDPE

HDPE - High-Density Polyethylene is one of the most common materials in cosmetic packaging. It is a very strong material and is effectively moisture and chemical-resistant (although some essential and fragrance oils can cause a collapse of bottle walls). It is rated for exposure to temperatures ranging from -100ºF to 120ºF, making it more resistant to climate-related damages. HDPE is also easily recycled

PE

PE- Polyethylene Plastic- This material is best known for its moisture resistance and low-cost production. PE is one of the most widely used plastics in the world and billions of pounds are produced each year.

PET

PET- Polyethylene Terephthalate Plastic- Also abbreviated as PETE. Much like HDPE, PET is lightweight and relatively durable. Temperature resistance for PET ranges from -40°F to 120°F, which lends resistance to climate damage. Unlike HDPE, which has a cloudy appearance, PET is clear like glass and comes in a wide variety of colors, from cobalt blue and amber to crystal clear. PET is also easy to recycle, making it an environmentally friendly packaging decision.

PP

Polypropylene Plastic- PP materials are BPA-free and very versatile. PP has a very high melting point, making it safe for the microwave and dishwasher. Also, it is easy to add dye to, making it favorable to manufacturers.

PS

Polystyrene Plastic- Polystyrene is a good choice for packaging because it has many versatile properties. PS is clear, hard, and lightweight which makes it a good alternative to glass.

To summarize, finding the best cosmetic packaging design can be challenging, depending on what is important for your brand. Do you want to stand out on the shelf? Do you need cool lipstick packaging? Are you looking for a container that provides the best long-term stability for your product? First, you must choose the material that is right for you.
